Automated Storage, Retrieval System and Logistics Building in Birmingham, UK

The new development provides a state of the art Automated Storage, Retrieval System and Logistics Facility. The facility comprises of two principal buildings: The Logistic Operations Centre – a traditional logistics building with covered loading bays, and the Automated Storage Retrieval System (ASRS) – a high bay narrow aisle completely automated storage facility. The facility provides part direct to the production line, increasing efficiency. In addition a new gate, trailer parks and internal road network were required. This was coupled with supporting infrastructure improvements across the whole of the Castle Bromwich plant.

PCM lead the project through the design, planning, tendering, and construction stages through to final hand over to JLR manufacturing. The project comprised of demolition of existing buildings to make way for a new state of the art logistics buildings. The works had to be undertaken whilst working around live production. The logistics involved relocation of a test track, working over a live 300mm high pressure gas main, and adjacent a WIP car park.

PCM was responsible for the planning and management of the works within this live plant, co-ordinating the challenging requirements of the manufacturing and production teams, and reporting weekly to plant director on progress and issues. PCM was responsible for leading the value engineering initiatives, providing innovative solutions to challenging commercial problems during the progression of the build.
